What is art?  I still think that term is very broad and could be answered many different ways.  But to me at is beauty and also expression.

3. Who was your favorite artist in your original posting and who is your favorite visual artist now? If there is a difference, why do you think so? If you have the same favorite artist, why do you think so?

I didn't have a favorite art before and I still don't have one.  I like them all equally.

 4. Now that you've completed this course, how do you feel about taking an online course? Is your answer the same as it was in your first posting? How is it the same or different?

I still enjoy taking online courses.  This one was a much more time consuming  then an other then I have taken in the past.

I selected this media because its the only thing I had in my apartment to use. I was pleased with it because I was able to erase easily.

3. What challenges did you face in creating your self-portrait and how did you overcome them?

The challenges I faced was drawing the eyes correctly.  I fixed this by erasing and redrawing them.  I also tried to concentrate on the details of the shape.

Project 5

1.  I reviewed Joe Frangione, The Queen City.

2.  I selected this one because I am from Buffalo and thought it would be interesting to learn more about the art history here.

3. The challenges I faced in writing this paper was including enough information to complete it.

4.  I think its a good idea to review our classmates work because were are able to see how others went about doing their project.

5.  Yes I would  I think it would be interesting to see if people enjoyed my project.

6.  I would rate my finished article a 7 because I think I had a good foundation but I didn't make it that long because I didn't really have much to to write about.

7.  I enjoyed making my exhibition but I didn't enjoy writing an article about one.  The end of the semester is very frustrating with the work load we have from all of the classes and I felt like this was a little redundant.

Week 15 Video Posting

1. Key Concepts
Greenberg on Pollack- An interview was given to TJ Clark about Jackson Pollack.  The main idea of this   interview was to educate the viewers about Pollacks background and also his career.  He also discussed how others viewed his artwork at that time.
Micheal Fried and TJ Clark in conversation-   The main concept of this film was the difference in opinion that TJ Clark and Micheal Fried had about Pollacks paintings.  Each of their views were explained.

2.  Does this relate to my art criticism project?
Greenberg on Pollack- Yes this related to my project because it discussed paintings from the artist perspective and a lot of my works of art were paintings.
Micheal Fried and TJ Clark in conversation- Yes this relate to my project because it showed how people can perceive artwork differently   It doesn't mean they are wrong, its just they way the view it.

3.  The films were good.  They both added depth to my understanding of art criticism.

Art Exhibit

This way a very nice way to tie in everything we learned over the semester.  I really enjoyed creating this and looking for the picture to include.

The only down side of the project was finding picture with the appropriated information.  I found a lot of pictures I wanted to use be they didn't include all the information that was needed.

I enjoyed analyzing the pictures because it gave me a  chance to view them in a way that I wouldn't have before.  The project was time consuming but fun at the same time.  I enjoyed being creative and setting up my power-point in a unique way by added famous children quotes throughout it.

Mod 12...Video posting

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.

I selected each of this videos because the titles interested me.

2.   For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

The key concepts I learned from watching Abstract Expressionism and Pop was that in the 50s and 60s artist started viewing art differently.  People were not use to seeing art this way and it was not welcomed as pop art was.

The key concepts I learned from watching Hockney on Photography was that David Hockney was not only a talented painter but also very gifted in photography.  This film take you through a journey on how he was able to transform his skill into being a photographer.

3. How did the videos relate to the readings.

The video Abstract Expressionism and Pop relates to the reading because both topics are discussed in the text. the book defines expressionism as and art movement to the 20th century, which claimed the right to distort visual appearances to express psychological or emotion states.  This is exactly what the film showed and gave man examples of.

The video Hockney on Photography relates to the reading because there is an entire chapter dedicated to photography in the text.  This film shows one mans journey and the text explains how how photography is a work of art.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?

i thought both of the films were educationally interesting.  Its nice to have a understanding of the history of art and where it came from.  These films gave me a deeper understanding a different area of art. The add depth to the readings because the give a more detailed explanation of the topic.
